12.03.2024 - Römerturm becomes part of the MAY+SPIES Group

Düren, 12 March 2024 - Düren-based paper processor MAY+SPIES is acquiring all shares in speciality paper wholesaler Römerturm with retroactive effect from 1 January 2024. Founded in 1885 and now based in Kerpen, the company is one of Germany's most prominent fine paper specialists. Römerturm supplies a wide range of high-quality paper products for graphic print products, packaging and applications in galleries and museums.

"Since our first small investment in 2022, the collaboration between the two companies has developed very successfully. I am therefore particularly pleased that Römerturm has now become an important part of the MAY+SPIES family," comments Dr Heinrich Spies, Managing Partner of MAY+SPIES GMBH, on the latest acquisition.

"Through our investment in the Reflex paper mill, we are now increasingly utilising our opportunities within the value chain from production to processing and wholesale. Especially in these turbulent times, we want to be a reliable partner for our friends and customers in the retail and printing sectors," says Spies.

27.09.2023 - Just launched: Luma artist pads

The Luma art papers have been developed for creative people with the highest demands. Four types of paper in the best artist quality offer the perfect painting surface for sketches, markers, watercolor and mixed media. The Luma papers are available as individual sheets in various formats. Also now, three artist pads for markers, watercolor and mixed media were added to the range. 17.05.2022 - MAY+SPIES becomes co-shareholder at Römerturm

MAY+SPIES GMBH has joined the fine and artist's paper supplier Römerturm as a co-partner. MAY+SPIES takes over the shares of the previous co-partner INAPA. MAY+SPIES GMBH is also a co-shareholder in the paper manufacturer Reflex. With the new synergies, we are strengthening our strategic position in the market.

26.03.2021 - MAY+SPIES invests 1.5 million euros

and is already adapting to the future requirements of our customers! The machinery in the envelope and label production area is being expanded and modernised, along with the creation of new full-time positions and apprenticeships in production. Furthermore, investments are being made in a completely new software platform in order to take the first steps towards "Industry 4.0" with the use of artificial intelligence.

Heinrich Spies is the owner in the third generation and has been managing director of the group of companies since 1998. He has been involved in the paper industry on a voluntary basis for many years and was, among other things, president of the Hauptverband der Papier- und Kunststoffverarbeitung (HPV) in Berlin from 2008 to 2016.

The Heilbronn paper wholesaler Berberich and the Dürener paper processor MAY+SPIES will further expand their cooperation. The aim is to make greater use of sales potential and to expand their own range of products. Both family-owned companies see this as a great opportunity to counter the strong changes in the graphic paper market with customer-oriented concepts. Heinz König, Managing Director of Carl Berberich GmbH, and Dr. Heinrich Spies, Managing Director of MAY+SPIES GMBH, are convinced that this cooperation will open up new market potentials and enable them to offer their customers additional products and services.

Carl Berberich GmbH, founded in 1863 and headquartered in Heilbronn, Baden-Württemberg, has approximately 350 employees and serves its customers via 8 service centers in Germany and Austria.

The Dürener paper processor MAY+SPIES has been in existence since 1920 and, with its approx. 170 employees, specializes in the production and Europe-wide distribution of high-quality fine papers and self-adhesive label products.
